Notification of imports of agricultural products

The products subject to notification are listed in Annex 1 of the decree according to the CN code.

The notification obligation does not cover seed.

Transit of the product subject to notification through the territory of Hungary is not subject to the notification obligation.

The notification must be submitted in writing in Hungarian by the natural person, individual entrepreneur or legal person selling the product subject to notification (or by the carrier acting on behalf of the seller, or by the person organising the sale) using the form published on the website of the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH), which can be found at the following link:

The notification must be made by the relevant obligated parties at least than 6 hours before the import in case of transport by air or water, or 24 hours in other cases.

Several imports of the same product may be indicated in the same notification. Imports into Hungary for which the date of import does not extend beyond 30 days from the date of notification may be indicated in the notification.

The National Food Chain Safety Office will immediately send an electronic confirmation of the receipt of a completed notification to the notifier at the e-mail address provided.

The declarant must provide these documents to the transport operator.

The police and the tax authority shall monitor compliance with the provisions of the Government Decree and impose an administrative fine of up to 40% of the value net of VAT of the notifiable product covered by the notification on the notifier if

• the notifier has not complied with the notification obligation under the Government Regulation, or
• the documents do not accompany the consignment in full, or
• the import took place more than 30 days after the date of notification.
